Life Lately
Starting this post off with a wise quote from the Taylor Swift:
"You don't have to say things in a deep way, or convey things in a deep way, for them to resonate."
This is me not being deep. Enjoy!
When life gets busy, so does my brain - and it's really hard to sit down and organize my thoughts enough to write what I consider a good, thoughtful entry. Over the last 5 years or so, I would have spurts like this where my mind dissociates in a way that it's hard to have very many self-reflecting thoughts. I used to see this as a warning (you're losing yourself), or a ceremonial exit from angsty adolescence (immaturity) into adulthood (maturity), but now... I think it's pretty normal for the natural ebb and flow of life to stake its claim on our day-to-day lives. I'm officially jaded like the rest of the world. Welcome to my 30's!
In today's world, when you're putting yourself out there like this, incessant content is expected - TikToks, Insta reels/posts/stories, maybe even some "Tweets". I've never made a TikTok in my life, and have no plans of changing that. But, as I navigate this niche, content-driven section of the universe, I have to believe that having stretches of time where life pulls you away from inspiration is completely okay. Not everyone (millennials, mostly haha) has the bandwidth to create content weekly, daily, multiple times a day, so instead of judging myself based on what others are able to do, I'm just going to show up as myself today.

Here are some snippets of life lately:
I hate to love scary movies.
Last night, after celebrating our college friends at their engagement party in downtown GR, a few of us went back to our apartment and watched Smile 2. It was one of those movies where you knew when to cover your eyes for the jump scare, but just as suddenly, the graphics would be so shocking that you couldn't look away. While getting ready for bed, the amount of times I glanced at my boyfriend to make sure he wasn't smiling at me was hilarious. 86% on Rotten Tomatoes if you're interested - I'll personally be sticking to Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown for the duration of spooky szn.

I attempted my "famous" pumpkin bread a couple of weekends ago, and don't let this old photo fool you - it was not Insta worthy.
The first bake of the season is always a toss up - it's either deceptively perfect and then completely raw in the middle (like oozing-out-onto-the-counter raw), or all of the edges are burnt and the streusel breaks off in concrete chunks. This time was the latter, and I'm determined to make a comeback. Stay tuned for a blog-worthy photo in the coming weeks when I scoop up enough of my dignity to try again.

My fantasy team is so mid that each week the matchup is 48% - 52%, me losing. Billy tells me to drop the Lions defense, but I'm holding out hope for Hutch to solely carry the defense on his back.
I'm 2-2 and playing against Gibbs this week - thoughts and prayers welcome.

All of my fall shows are in full swing, finally!
My seasonal favs right now are Survivor, Amazing Race, Traitors, Dancing With The Stars, and Real Housewives of SLC. I'm also working through the Below Deck series in order of release - in case it's not clear, I have a type and her name is reality TV.

Taylor Swift is on repeat, as always.
I've got Pink Clouding, Patient Zero, Babylon and Cleveland! queued up in any given order, with Pink Clouding stuck in my head at any given time of day. I balance out these tracks on the weekend with Taylor's sad girl stuff - evermore, folklore and The Anthology - and use her lyrics as creative exercises on Pinterest. If you like her lyrics + the visual aesthetics they bring, go check out my "Taylor Swift Creative Inspo" folder on the app!

I have a book idea that I've been toying with for years, and I'm actually starting to conceptualize it and it's super cringey to even admit that because what are the odds it's actually any good and I'm not a ~ writer ~ and will I even bring it to fruition and if so it'll probably suck and who do I think I am and I'll probably give up halfway through but although stupid, it's exciting to dream about... so, that's all I'm going to say!

And finally, there are a lot of exciting things happening at work. I'm feeling seen and validated in ways I never have before, and it's been so fulfilling as I continue to grow (both personally and professionally) and has brought all the confidence I've been missing all these years. Being 30 has been discovering myself and welcoming myself home at the same time - us slow burns have a place in this world too.

There's always a place for you too. If you made it to the end, thank you for stopping by and humoring my "current events" life dump.
I hope everyone is happy and living their best life - you deserve it. Happy Fall!
